The Kingswood College boys’ first squash team ended the year on a high note when they returned from a squash festival in Cape Town unbeaten for the entire season.

The Kingswood College boys’ first squash team ended the year on a high note when they returned from a squash festival in Cape Town unbeaten for the entire season.

A total of 17 boys’ schools participated in the sixth Wynberg Stayers Squash Festival, including some of the strongest squash-playing schools in the country. The event was held over the recent half-term holiday.

Jethro Thorburn (captain), Daine Kruger, David Brown, Simon Wormald, Vaughan Meyer and Joshua Thorburn were Kingswood's star players who gave outstanding performances during the festival. They won all of their five matches, and Joshua Thorburn remained unbeaten in all of his games.

The boys played against Wynberg, Bishops, St John’s, Menlo Park and St Andrew’s (Bloem).

vs Wynberg –

Jethro Thorburn won 3-2, Daine Kruger won 3-0, David Jones won 3-2, Simon Wormald won 3-0, Vaughan Meyer won 3-0, Joshua Thornburn won 3-0. KC won 20 pts to 4.

vs Bishops –

Jethro Thorburn won 3-1, Daine Kruger won 3-1, David Jones won 3-0, Simon Wormald lost 1-3, Vaughan Meyer lost 2-3, Joshua Thornburn won 3-0. KC won 17 pts to 8.

vs St Johns –

Jethro Thorburn lost 1-3, Daine Kruger lost 1-3, David Jones lost 2-3, Simon Wormald won 3-0, Vaughan Meyer won 3-0, Joshua Thornburn won 3-1. KC won 15 pts to 10.

vs Menlo Park –

Jethro Thorburn won 3-2, Daine Kruger lost 2-3, David Jones lost 1-3, Simon Wormald won 3-0, Vaughan Meyer won 3-0, Joshua Thornburn won 3-1. KC won 17 pts to 8.

vs St Andrew’s (Bloem) –

Jethro Thorburn lost 0-3, Daine Kruger won 3-0, David Jones won 3-0, Simon Wormald won 3-0, Vaughan Meyer won 3-0, Joshua Thornburn won 3-2. KC won 17 pts to 5.
