The St Andrew’s College first cricket team travelled to Port Elizabeth on Saturday for their limited overs fixture against Grey High School.
Winning the toss, St Andrew's elected to bowl first.
Opening bowlers Chris Ford and Sintu Manjezi kept the pressure on the Grey top order through some accurate channel bowling. St Andrew’s missed some catching opportunities but still managed to reduce Grey to 30/3 after 10 overs.
It was Chris Ford’s second spell (3/18) that placed the game in St Andrew’s favour as Grey failed to close out their innings and were bowled out for 115.
The target was still going to be a battle for the St Andrew’s batsmen as conditions stayed bowler-friendly throughout the day. Andrew Rushmere, Murray Leith and Greg King all knuckled down against the Grey seamers using up valuable time against the new ball.
The next battle for the St Andrew’s batsmen was against some quality left arm spin. Murray Leith’s (25) determined knock came to an end when he was caught at first slip, which left Greg King with the task of seeing St Andrew’s home.
Greg King responded to the team’s request for runs in tough batting conditions finishing on 40 not out with St Andrew’s closing out the game and winning by four wickets.
