Around 25 Makana boxers brought home gold medals from the Cacadu Amateur Boxing tournament in Kirkwood on Saturday.

Around 25 Makana boxers brought home gold medals from the Cacadu Amateur Boxing tournament in Kirkwood on Saturday.
They were representing the district municipality of Cacadu. Chris Hani district municipality and the Nelson Mandela Bay metro were also represented in the event at Mzomomhle Hall.

Bulelani Ndwayana, Masibambane boxing club coach, told Grocott's Mail that the team selected for Makana had proved their point.
Out of 29 boxers representing Makana, 25 came back with gold and four with silver medals, he said.

Ndwayana said the team had also collected trophies, with Mvuyisi Springbok earning the best boxer trophy, Nosiphosethu Dyantyi the women's trophy and Cacadu named the best district. These boxers have been training together for three weeks, shaping their styles and learning from their mistakes, said Ndwayana. He said there had been around 59 bouts and the tournament lasted throughout the night.

The tournament was hosted by the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture.
