While sources within the ANC told Grocott's Mail the region had decided to support Motlanthe and that this might be imposed on other branches in the party's Sara Baartman region,

Asked to comment, regional secretary Scara Njadayi strongly denied this.
"There is no such. We are yet to discuss the leadership after the branches have all decided on their nominations. The branches are still consolidating their nominations and they are the functionality of the REC", he said.
Njadayi emphasised that the Regional Elective Congress had no power to pronounce on nominations, because they took their lead from the branches.
Njadayi said there are 47 branches in Sara Baartman that will represent the region at the December Congress.
Word on the ground is that the branches in Sara Baartman are more concerned to support Gugile Nkwinti to sit on the National Executive Committee (NEC) and on the National Council of Provinces (NCOP).
The ANC youth league within the Makana sub-region has also pronounced their support for Motlanthe. Regional chairperson Mabhuti Matyumza said yesterday that as the youth league they had decided to nominate Motlanthe.
We are also pushing for Gugile Nkwinti and Sicelo Gqobana to be in the NEC, Matyumza said.
Njadayi said the ANC Youth League was autonomous and that whatever was decided in the youth league nationally would be followed at the lower levels.
He said the ANC operated from bottom up. He said there would be a special Regional Elective Congress after the branches had submitted their nominations to announce the region's decision.
