If there's a samba in your step and goodwill in your heart then this weekend Rhodes University's DanceSport Club is hosting a charity event that will allow you to get your dancing shoes on.

With support from the Rhodes Dean of Students office the club will be hosting a dance fitness workshop on Saturday from 11am-1pm to raise money for cancer research.

DanceSport Club chairperson Candice Ryan said anyone is welcome to take part in the event and she hopes to have a good turnout of Grahamstown residents.

While the DanceSport club will be providing some groovy tunes to dance to, Ryan suggested that participants wear something sporty and casual so that they remain comfortable. And of course the overall dress code is something pink – the colour of breast cancer awareness.

Dance for a Cure will be held at the Aerobics Hall on campus and Ryan said all proceeds will go to the Cancer Awareness Initiative at Rhodes, in the Biological Sciences Department.

RedBull will be sponsoring the event to help keep participants' energy levels up and R5 raffle tickets will be on sale. The raffle prize is a two-night stay for two, including a full body massage to the value of R2 500, sponsored by Chappys Cushion Private Lodge. There will also be a number of spot prizes ranging from food vouchers to Oakley sunglasses, a weekend away and a studio photo shoot.

Entry fee is R5 and for more information you can contact dancesport@ru.ac.za.
