A man and a woman, both out on parole, have been arrested in the past month in connection with two murders. The woman, 30, allegedly killed a 20-year-old man from Xolani last week.
A man and a woman, both out on parole, have been arrested in the past month in connection with two murders. The woman, 30, allegedly killed a 20-year-old man from Xolani last week.
She had just finished serving her parole for an intentional assault case in April last year. According to police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender the Xolani man named Buyisile Ntsendwana was stabbed to death outside the Cathcart Arms Hotel last Friday around 11pm. Police arrested the woman shortly after the incident.
Govender said Ntsendwana had left the hotel after noticing that his cell phone had disappeared. He had followed the woman outside to ask her about his missing phone and it is alleged that she took out a knife and stabbed him. He died on the scene.
The other parolee is a local boxer who was arrested in connection with the murder of a court official on 15 September. Grocott's Mail reported last month that scores of mourners had gathered at City Hall to bid farewell to Jacques Martin Louw.
In a police report released at the time Govender said a witness had reported seeing three men who looked like they were playing in K Street on the Saturday night Louw was killed. After a while the witness had realised one of the men was still on the ground and, seeing blood, called the police.
The police were called to the scene at about [8.30pm] before an ambulance arrived… to declare the 40-year-old man dead, Govender said. According to the police, Louw had multiple stab wounds to his upper body. Grocott's Mail has learnt from a reliable source that the man who was arrested for Louw's murder was out on parole at the time he was arrested.
His parole was due to end on 17 December 2019. He had been imprisoned for public violence. The man appeared in the Grahamstown Magistrate's Court last Friday for charges of murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances. He did not apply for bail. The case has been postponed until 23 November for further investigations.
