When I hear the beginning of their foolish sales pitches the bile blasts through my equilibrium valves and slams out a double rage alert of hate and anger. I detest any company that interrupts my work or my social life to tell me about a product that I will never buy. Do not intrude on my time. Do not make me run across the room to hear your inane drivel.

I used to think that the most repulsive of all these companies were the vermin who would call me on my cell to try and sell me a cell phone contract. In other words, they are perfectly aware that I definitely do not need their fraudulent claptrap, yet they choose to annoy me in the hope that I will pay them money.

Where did they get my phone number from? They most probably got it from another company that I had definitely never given permission to pimp out my contact details. Knowing that they got my number against my wishes only makes me angrier and now I hate both companies: the one that sold my number as part of a list and the one that bought the list with the express purpose of irritating me.

Let’s put this on record. If a tele-sales company phoned me up to sell me a brand new Ferrari for R50 I would tell them to jump into a pit of vipers.

However much I hate the above mentioned purveyors of resentment, today I was subjected to an even more outrageous insult. An automated recorded voice machine phoned me to tout car insurance while I was busy trying to meet a newspaper deadline.

I was beyond anger with absolute gall of that company. The recording asked me to type one of two numbers to continue listening to the sales pitch, and cleverly enough did not mention the name of the company because they knew how irritating they were being. This proves that they are perfectly aware that this strategy only provokes hatred.

What kind of a company pays money to stir up hated?
