    VP girls outrun and out-throw

    Toni Rafferty and Liyabona Macingwane of Victoria Primary School were the athletes to watch as they broke a total of three records at their school's annual sports day recently.

    Toni Rafferty and Liyabona Macingwane of Victoria Primary School were the athletes to watch as they broke a total of three records at their school's annual sports day recently.

    Toni set a new record in the U11 400m race with a time of 1 minute and 16,87 seconds. She also whipped up a new record time in the 800m race (2:54.15). Liyabona managed to throw a cricket ball 27.6 metres, breaking the school's old cricket ball record in the U10 age group.

    Both Toni and Liyabona won their age group's 1 200m events, and Liyabona also won the U10 long jump and 800m events. Arum House were the overall winners with 466 points, followed by Fern (452), Aloe (401) and Disa (392).

    The U9 trophy was awarded to Isivile Mafani, while Liyabona was the Junior Victrix Ludorum. Courtney Prins was heralded the Senior Victrix Ludorum.
