Former Grahamstown resident Margaret Maree (nee Corbett), who worked as a secretary at the Rhodes Maths department for many years, was found murdered in her Sandbaai home last week.

The Hermanus Times reported that the body of Maree, 72, who retired to Hermanus six years ago to be closer to family, was discovered by security guards last Wednesday morning. Maree lived alone.

According to the article published the next day, her son, Johan, was out of the country and, unable to reach her by phone or get into the locked house last Wednesday, Johan's wife, Ilse, called a local security company.

Maree was a confidante and friend to many in Grahamstown, and was also a member of the Grahamstown Christian Centre.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Johan and Ilse, grandson Conner and granddaughter Skye. She has three sisters and a brother. One of her sisters, Lynette Corbett, is a Bathurst resident.
