From above it sure looks cool, but for the Oatlands Preppies creating a human rhino formation their efforts weren't just in the name of fun.
Oatlands Preparatory is one of a growing number of schools across the country trying to raise awareness and funds to protect South Africa's rhino from poachers and extinction.
Oatlands pupils assembled and arranged themselves to make a human rhino on Friday morning as part of the Rooting for Rhino School Route Challenge.
This initiative kicked off earlier this year when 635 pupils at Port Alfred High School created a human rhino formation to bring attention to the poaching and mutilation of rhinos at the nearby Kariega Game Reserve. The project has since expanded to outside the Eastern Cape, involving schools as far Cape Town.
Oatlands is among a number of Grahamstown schools making the rhino formations. One certain days pupils are asked to wear white clothing and make a donation of R5 to go towards initiatives aiming to protect, rehabilitate and educate people about rhino conservation.
The Rooting for Rhino Challenge is trying to rope in as many schools as possible into their awareness campaign in the run-up to World Rhino Day on 22 September.
