EXECUTIVE MAYOR COUNCILLOR ZJ PETER:

Striving for success without hard work is like trying to harvest where you have not planted.

It is that time of the year when Grade 12s sit for their final examinations. It is a difficult period for everyone – educators, parents, grandparents, guardians and other family members. This period requires them to provide their children with extra love, care and support while they prepare and write their matric exams. We must let them know that they have our unconditional support as they face this important gateway to their adult life.

Matriculants should always remember that they have travelled a long journey through school life. You have spent 12 years preparing for this examination. When you started school 12 years ago, you could hardly spell your name, could not hold the pen, cried when you were dropped off at school.

It was indeed a long and interesting journey with twists and turns. I know you have drawn lessons in this process.

I urge all our matriculants to conduct themselves with honesty during exams because cheating will result in disqualification and no one will want that.

Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes, but don’t quit.

Even if you did not do as you would like, you should understand that it is not the end of the world.

Make sure that you keep calm and read the exam questions carefully. We have confidence that you will do your best and, as always, will make us proud.

Good luck to you all.
