The mountain village of Hogsback will host a colourful, fun-filled country festival during the Heritage Day long weekend – Friday 21 to Monday 24 September.

In the Hogsback Spring Saunter, organised by the Hogsback Garden Club, visitors can enjoy a variety of tours to the many magnificent private gardens that are opened to the public over the weekend. Festival craft stalls will be scattered throughout the village. There will be live music by JQN Entertainment and food at Swallowtail’s Trekkers Lounge on Friday night and the whole of Saturday and Sunday, when the potjie cookout competition will take place. Browse the Local Crafters Market at Butterfly Bistro on Saturday morning.

For the adventurous there are a guided mountain bike cycle trail through the forest, a climbing wall, abseiling and trail rides. Feather’s Cine Café will screen the Sundowner Tolkien Film Festival – the three films of The Lord of the Rings Epic – on the big screen on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings at 5pm, with tapas and sundowners before the shows.

Enjoy music at the Trekker’s Lounge from 7.30pm on Friday, or join a candlelit Poetry Reading at the Rose Theatre on Friday night at 8pm, or swing with the rhythm at the musical – Simply Broadway – a Grahamstown festival hit – to be performed at the Rose theatre on Saturday night at 8pm.

Browse local artwork, pottery and jewellery. There will be delicious meals, garden teas and pub food available at the many eateries and hostelries all over Hogsback Village.
