Teams from four local high schools got down and dirty at the Grahamstown military base this last weekend to face schools from neighbouring districts in an exciting outdoor adventure challenge.
Teams from four local high schools got down and dirty at the Grahamstown military base this last weekend to face schools from neighbouring districts in an exciting outdoor adventure challenge.
The eco adventure sport training organised by the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture saw youngsters from Nelson Mandela Metro (Port Elizabeth area), Chris Hani District (Queenstown area) and Cacadu (Grahamstown) take part. Thirty-seven teams across different age groups entered and each team of four people had to have both boys and girls.
Beginning on Friday night, the pupils were up at the crack of dawn on Saturday and Sunday to compete in canoeing, jogging, mountain biking, map reading, pioneering, raft building and abseiling activities.
One team from Mary Waters Secondary School showed their fitness and capability by coming first overall. The other local schools taking the challenge were Nombulelo Secondary, Kuyasa Special School and Mary Waters Secondary.
