Disgraced former head of detectives in the Alice cluster, which includes Grahamstown, Lieutenant-Colonel Andre Boshoff, will know his fate in two weeks.

Boshoff, who was arrested after allegations that he falsified claims for fictitious police informants amounting to thousands of rands, will be sentenced in the Grahamstown Regional Magistrate’s Court on 31 August.

Boshoff is also said to have pocketed money meant to be used to recover stolen weapons and narcotics. The former top policeman pleaded guilty to eight counts, including corruption, fraud and defeating the ends of justice when he appeared in court in July.

He was arrested in his home on December 2011 following a sting operation in which the police gave an informer audio and video recording equipment to secretly use for a meeting between himself and Boshoff at the Alice police station.

Boshoff later appeared in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Port Elizabeth and was convicted on various charges, including fraud and corruption.
