Residents of The Greens complex have been exposed to a river of faeces and toilet paper since Tuesday 7 August. An unknown blockage has caused human waste to seep up through a drain cover to the surrounding pathways and vegetation. Residents complained that the sewerage is blocking access to their flats and is a danger to their health.

An unknown blockage has caused human waste to seep up through a drain cover to the surrounding pathways and vegetation. Residents complained that the sewerage is blocking access to their flats and is a danger to their health.
"The smell is terrible and the situation is highly unsanitary. Not only have we been left to wallow in this filth for over a week, but we've had to cope with getting it splashed on us when we attempt to walk in and out of the complex,” said resident Kylie Eriksen.
The problem was reported to the municipality two days after the initial spillage and workers have been trying to fix it since.
The Greens’ property agent Remax contacted the Department of Health to disinfect the area. According to Remax employee Maggie Rademeyer, a honey sucker municipal truck was deployed to relieve the blockage.
According to residents, however, the truck never arrived.
Remax has stated that if the Health Department’s sterilisation process is not up to standard, they will take responsibility for disinfecting the area.
In the meantime, residents live amid unsanitary sight and smell.
