A dispute over territory turned into a case of attempted murder when car guard Melikhaya Tamboerie was stabbed in High Street.

Siyabulela Tamboerie, the victim’s brother, witnessed the incident.

He said his brother stood next to the other car guard outside the Fishaways on 14 August, when they began to argue over who should be paid for watching cars in the area.

The argument escalated into a fight, said Siyabulela. The other car guard allegedly stabbed Melikhaya in the neck and ran away.

Siyabulela said he could not see what weapon his brother's alleged attacker had used.

Melikhaya staggered a few metres before collapsing in the middle of the street in front of Checkers, his brother said.

Police and paramedics quickly arrived and stabilised Melikhaya. He was then rushed to Settlers Hospital.

A case of attempted murder has been opened and police are searching for the suspect.

“We only have they guy’s nickname and are looking for witnesses to assist with information,” says Grahamstown police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender.
