A Grahamstown man and his toddler son were killed in a collision with a long-distance bus on the N2 to Port Elizabeth during the weekend. The car was travelling towards Port Elizabeth when the accident happened at about 7.20am on Saturday, around 15km from Grahamstown.

The bus was travelling from the direction of PE and the sedan was travelling in the opposite direction when the accident happened, said Grahamstown police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender.
Govender confirmed that a man believed to be in his 40s and an 18-month-old boy were killed in the crash. According to the bus driver and some passengers, the sedan drove straight into the bus, she said.
The front section of the Toyota Tazz was completely under the bus and emergency staff struggled to remove its occupants from the wreckage. Govender described the scene as horrific saying that emergency officers spent hours at the scene. They eventually managed to get the scant remains out of the wreckage, she added.
Govender said it was believed that relatives of the man did eventually arrive at the scene. The driver of the Tazz, believed to be from Extension 8, was reportedly employed at a local driving school at the time of his death.
A friend, who is a tow-truck driver said he had been on duty when the accident happened and responded to the emergency call. He said none of the bus passengers had been injured.
He described the driver as an outgoing person. Govender said the police had opened a case of culpable homicide.
