Commuters have had to find alternative roads in Etension 6 after Ezihagwini Street was flooded. Residents have complained that their homes and possessions have been damaged.
Xolelwa Mbede had to remove furniture from her flooded home.
“The water came into the house and we had to move things like couches out to protect them from being damaged,” she said.
Mbede said that some residents had to miss work due to the flood.
Extension 1 resident Michael Mdyongolo lost the roof of his house during the storm.
The extreme weather conditions have also resulted in motor accidents and road closures across the province. Provincial police said a three-year-old girl was killed in Bityi, near Mthatha, when the walls of her home crumbled after continuous rain.
A Peddie teacher was killed when her car overturned on the N2 between Peddie and King William's Town. Two passengers were injured.
Eastern Cape transport department spokesman Tshepo Machea said a number of roads in the province had to be closed due to severe weather conditions, including the N6 between Queenstown and Jamestown and the R61 between Middelburg and Cradock.
