This story celebrates the life and times of Princess Mkabayi kaJama, a great African woman, a warrior and an unsung hero whose story has never been told.

Credit is mistakenly given to other Zulu royalty, such as Shaka and Dingane, for these exploits – but this is the woman who singlehandedly built the great Zulu nation. Throughout the times of King Jama, Senzangakhona, Shaka, Dingane and Mpande, Princess Mkabayi was always there as pillar of strength for the royal household.

She was amazingly beautiful, but never married because she committed her life and soul to the nation. This musical production takes us through the life journey of Princess Mkabayi, from her youth until her sad death. In it the truth behind the assassination of King Shaka is also revealed: it becomes clear that Princess Mkabayi was tricked into involving herself in this gruesome killing of royal blood.

Presented by Khula Arts Centre, written and produced by Bhekani Thabede and directed by Xolani Dlongolo, the story is told through powerful and energetic acting, song and dance.
