Children at the Red Cross Gladys Williams Crèche enjoyed a Christmas in June celebration at the centre on Friday.

The event was in memory of former local Red Cross chairman, the late Richard Buckland, who died last year.
Grahamstown sheriff and chairperson of the local Red Cross, Annerie Wolmarans said shortly before the event, At the Christmas party, each child will enjoy cake and sweets and will each receive a bag of clothes and goodies collected by the Red Cross.

Wolmarans said when Buckland passed away, the committee decided to hold something in his honour, and because he was fond of the crèche, they decided on the Christmas in June event for the kids.
Buckland's daughter, Nickie Turner, was the guest speaker at Friday's event.

Wolmarans encouraged Grahamstown residents to get involved with Red Cross, adding that they urgently needed members to join the society. Anyone interested can phone the Red Cross office at 046 622 4138.
