The parents of a Grahamstown Grade 2 pupil raped – possibly in the girls' toilets at her school – are said to be beside themselves as her alleged rapist, a teacher at the school, continues to walk free.

A reliable source told Grocott's Mail that the girl's parents had realised when she was bathing that something was wrong.

It is suspected that the attacks occurred in the girls' toilets at the school, the first during the last week of school before the Easter holidays. The source claimed the child's alleged rapist has keys for the toilets.

The second alleged rape was on the first day of term. It was then that the parents of the little girl, 7, found out there was a problem.

When she was asked what was wrong with her she was shy to tell. That is when they started knowing there was something she is hiding, the source said.

She was asked a couple of times and eventually said she was raped by this teacher. She was taken to the clinic, where it was discovered that she has indeed been raped. The clinic forwarded her to Settlers' Hospital and they also confirmed this too at the hospital.

The source said the police took the report from the doctor at the hospital, without making a copy for the parents and that when the parents asked the police to make a copy for them, they refused.

The source also said the child refused to go back to school, and appeared fearful.

The source said the police told the parents that they would make an arrest soon – possibly before the end of the week – but warned the family not to talk to the media.
