    Policeman in court on rape charge

    A Grahamstown police constable charged with raping a schoolgirl appeared briefly in the Grahamstown Magistrate's Court on Wednesday. Xolani Mngxuma, 34, allegedly raped a school girl after he took her to his house in September. He was arrested in October and released on R1 000 bail, on condition that he makes no contact with the 15-year-old girl.

    A Grahamstown police constable charged with raping a schoolgirl appeared briefly in the Grahamstown Magistrate's Court on Wednesday. Xolani Mngxuma, 34, allegedly raped a school girl after he took her to his house in September. He was arrested in October and released on R1 000 bail, on condition that he makes no contact with the 15-year-old girl. In December, police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender said that an internal investigation was under way, but she couldn't say when it would be finalised. Magistrate Dion Kotze finalised the Regional Court hearing for 6 July.
