This year's Rhodes Squash Open tournament is set to be a bumper event, with several entries already received by the organisers. Along with Adrian Hansen (South African men's number two) and Rudi Willemse (men's number seven), Andreas Schobart (ranked 40) will be taking part in his first Rhodes Open.

There are also a number of players from the Port Elizabeth and East London leagues who have entered. “We should see a full 24-man A section, 16-man B Section and 16-woman A Section,” said event organiser Brendon Martens. The tournament will be played at the Rhodes University Alec Mullins squash complex and spectators are welcome. The first round begins at 5pm this Friday and the final will be played at about 1.30pm on Sunday.

This is the 16th edition of the Rhodes Open and the tournament will run in a Swiss Pairing format, with players having a match on Friday, two on Saturday and one on Sunday. In addition there will be a second group – “for all local players who do not feel up to taking on the top players” – according to Martens, who encouraged local women squash players to enter. Entry forms are available at Rhodes Sports Administration or email g08m0463@campus.ru.ac.za
