The sentencing of convicted killer Phuthumile Diko was delayed in the Grahamstown Magistrate's Court yesterday, because the correctional officer's report wasn't available.

Diko, 49, was supposed to be sentenced yesterday after being found guilty of kidnapping and murder.

The accused had a motive, the means, and the opportunity to commit the offences, said Magistrate Thembela Mata, delivering his judgment in March on the kidnapping and murder of taxi driver Bonakele Mqokeli in August 2010. Mqokeli's body was found in a secluded area near Manley Flats, a few kilometres out of town, after Diko and his brother argued with him at a tavern earlier that evening.

His co-accused, Mongameli Diko, 28, and Thanduxolo Smayile, were acquitted because of lack of evidence.
The case was postponed to 25 May for a correctional supervision report.
