Several Grahamstown cyclists took part in the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour tin Cape Town recently. The popular event covers a distance of 110km through and around Cape Town. While the 2012 event escaped the very windy conditions of previous years, this year's participants battled very hot conditions.

Several Grahamstown cyclists took part in the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour tin Cape Town recently. The popular event covers a distance of 110km through and around Cape Town. While the 2012 event escaped the very windy conditions of previous years, this year's participants battled very hot conditions.
Participants cycled along Edinburgh Drive, through Simonstown, Noordhoek, Chapman's Peak and up the famous Suikerbossie hill, before finishing at the Greenpoint Stadium.

The overall winner was Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg, who finished in 2 hours 36 minutes and 17 seconds. The women's winner was Ashleigh Moolman, who finished in 2:52:24.

Twenty-five cyclists from Grahamstown made the trip to the Cape to take part in the event. The first Grahamstown cyclist home was St Andrew's pupil, Richard Simpson, who finished in 3:00:59. Businessman Colin Meyer was second local home in 3:15:59. Julie Walker was the first local woman home in 3:28:17 with Nicole Craig next home in 3:39:04. This year's race saw a total of 31 165 finishers.

Entries for the 2013 Cycle Tour open on 1 September 2012.
