In a closely contested final, which saw the lead changing on several occasions, East Cape Electrical won the Pepper Grove Pick n Pay Inter Company Night Bowls league final on Friday night.

Hosted by the Grahamstown Bowling Club, the night bowls competition has been played over several rounds during the past few weeks.

East Cape Electrical met SAPS B in the final, after both finished top of their section and then won all their knockout games leading up to the final. With the lead changing hands throughout the game, SAPS B led 13-11 going into the final stretch.

With only the skips to bowl, SAPS were up two as Morne Sweeney's first wood did not change the game. It was then the turn of East Cape Electrical's skip, Michale Mattison, whose wood hit the jack and saw East Cape Electrical lying three. SAPS B's last wood changed the game again, as Sweeney's final wood pushed away the lying East Cape wood, for SAPS B to again lead the end.

The final wood of the game saw Mattison's wood push the jack again towards his own members' woods, for East Cape to lie three on the final round and win the game by 14-13.

The evening of the finals was started by the rolling of the first bowl by Johan Pienaar, of sponsors Pick n Pay, with the final games followed by the prize-giving ceremony.

In the Plate event, Proper Cleaning Services beat Pick n Pay 18-6.

The winners of the main third and fourth game was Pheasant Pluckers, who beat Fizix 13-9, while Masons beat Grahamstown Electrical 16-14 in the third and fourth play-off in the Plate section.
