African Connection scored a massive 16 goals in their two weekend matches to secure top spot in the Safa Cacadu Absa women's league. Sunday's games also saw the conclusion of the first-round fixtures.

African Connection scored a massive 16 goals in their two weekend matches to secure top spot in the Safa Cacadu Absa women's league. Sunday's games also saw the conclusion of the first-round fixtures.

African Connection, the defending Cacadu champions, are well on their way to take part in the play-offs, where they will come up against other Cacadu stream winners in an attempt to be crowned Cacadu champions once again.

The weekend's matches took place in Bathurst on Sunday. In their first match, against Bathurst team Red Stars, African Connection won 6-1. Red Stars were first to score, before African Connection replied with two goals of their own ahead of the half-time break.

They scored another four goals in the second half to win their first match of the day. Goal scorers were Nwabisa Jafta, Nosifundo Fabana (two goals each), Sindiswa Skade and Zikhona Dastile (one each).

In their second fixture, the Grahamstown side faced Alex Bay (Alexandria). After leading 7-0 at half-time, African Connection went on to win the match 10-0. After scoring one in the first match, Dastile went on to score a hat-trick. Other goal-scorers were Zimkhitha Ntozini (2), Jafta, Skade, Nozibele Boro, Tandiswa Lukhwe and Sbusiso Mantawule (one goal each).

African Connection will now host the first of the second-round fixtures, scheduled to take place on Sunday 4 March at the JD Dlepu Stadium.
