There were bleeding noses, sweat and blood at the Masibambane boxing club tournament at Noluthando Hall on Saturday, where fighters from junior to senior level from Kirkwood, Peterson, Mayfield, Mfuzo and Masibambane put their fists up.

The tournament started with junior amateur, Sinothando Blow, from Kirkwood, facing jungle cat, Simbabalwe Pama, from Grahamstown. They kept the crowd on their feet with their thrilling fighting styles. Blow won by points after Pama lost eight in the last round.

Only those who develop their mind in the sport will do amazing things for their community, said Masimbambane boxing coach Sakhiwo Duruwe, during the fight of Siphosethu Zingela (Mfuzo) and Anele Jibiliza (Kirkwood).

He said that their dream is to distant children from drug dealing and crime. We want to keep them far from the things that will make them go to prison, said Duruwe. The last junior amateurs fight, between Zingela and Jibiliza, kept the crowd moving around the ring, shouting and punching the air.

Zingela won by a knockout on the second round. He said he hadn't been fit for the tournament. I did not trained well that's why I decided to be very hard to my opponent, said Zingela. After Zingela's tough match, the ladies came with their energetic and amateur professional styles. Monalisa Takane fighting against the Queen of Grahamstown, Nosiphosethu Mesilane.

The first round started very well with jabs and straight punches from both boxers. The second round became very hectic for Takane, who didn't get a break with Mesilane on the attack. On the third round, Takane moved like Muhammed Ali throwing jabs, hooks and straight punches.

Takane won by points on third round. The last match of the tournament was closed by Vuyani Springbok Swartbooi going against Sandile The Black Mamba Khalipha. The ring was dominated by Swartbooi attacking the strong man, Khalipha. They fought for four rounds and Sandile lost on points. It was the last match of Swartbooi's amateur boxing career.
