You’ve settled them into their res room, you’ve waited patiently in the registration queue with them, you’ve imparted your heartfelt advice and golden nuggets of wisdom, and soon you’ll say your goodbyes, hit the N2 and hope for the best.

You’ve settled them into their res room, you’ve waited patiently in the registration queue with them, you’ve imparted your heartfelt advice and golden nuggets of wisdom, and soon you’ll say your goodbyes, hit the N2 and hope for the best.

As you drive home, you might wonder to yourself what really goes on in Grahamstown, the place that will become a second home for your son or daughter for the next three or more years. What makes this village in a valley tick like it does? What keeps everyone busy here? How is it being run? What major issues is the town facing, and what are the success stories coming out of it?

Grocott’s Mail has been the heart and soul of Grahamstown for 142 years – we’re the oldest functioning independent newspaper in South Africa! We keep a very close eye on what’s happening and who’s doing what in Grahamstown, and we’d like to invite you to connect with us so you’re always in the know about what’s on the go.

Here are a few ways you can connect with us, and Grahamstown:

Digital subscription: an exact-replica version of the print edition, which comes out every Tuesday and Friday. It’s available hours before the print edition, costs less and is kinder to the environment. You can read it on your computer, smartphone or tablet device, wherever you are in the world.

Grocott’s Mail Online: Our website is updated regularly and carries selected content from the print edition. We also publish loads of photo galleries and other multimedia content.

Grahamstown NOW: This is our mobi-site, which provides realtime information about what events and business specials are on now and coming up soon in Grahamstown. There’s also a steady stream of Grocott’s news, a business directory, webcams, weather info, competitions, radio and cinema schedules and more. Visit it from your phone at www.ghtnow.co.za

SMS alerts: Get a brief overview of the top stories in every edition by opting in to receive a free SMS from us every Tuesday and Friday morning. Go to www.grocotts.co.za/sms to sign up.

Facebook: We’ve got two Facebook pages which we use to interact with our readers and keep the Grahamstown conversation going. Connect with us at www.facebook.com/grocotts and www.facebook.com/ghtnow.

Twitter: If Twitter’s your thing, follow us (@grocotts and @ghtnow) for breaking news and other handy info. Or feel free to ask us a question.
