Avid all-round cricketer Neville Botha, who works in Port Elizabeth but travels to Grahamstown every week to visit his family, raked in several awards in two tournaments held recently.
Avid all-round cricketer Neville Botha, who works in Port Elizabeth but travels to Grahamstown every week to visit his family, raked in several awards in two tournaments held recently.
Botha took part in the Amacalegushe tournament held from 26 to 31 December, playing for the Rhayi Cricket Club based near King William's Town. The club is affiliated to the Amagasela Cricket Board which is part of Border Villages.
Rhayi played in four matches during the festival, including the final which they won. Botha scored a total of 265 runs including an 84 not out. At the end of the tournament, he was awarded the Master Blaster trophy for the best player, the Super Striker for the best bowler, and the Super Batsman for the best batsmen of the tournament.
After Amacalegushe, a side was selected to take part in an inter boards tournament which was held from 2 to 4 January at Mdingi Village. Botha was selected by the Amagasela Cricket Board, whose side made it to the final where Botha took three wickets for six runs. He was named the best bowler of the tournament after taking a total of 19 wickets.
During the year, Botha plays for the Motherwell Cricket Club where he is the vice-captain. He hopes to make the Eastern Province Amateur cricket side this year.
