Makana technical services and infrastructure director, Dabula Njilo, will be leaving in December to take up a director post in another municipality in the province.

This was revealed recently when Municipal Manager, Ntombi Baart, presented Makana Municipality's organisational status to MP and Human Settlements Portfolio Committee chairperson, Nomhle Dambuza. Baart said five directors and the Municipal Manager comprised the municipality's senior staff.

She told Dambuza the chief financial officer was currently suspended and that Njilo had resigned and would leave at the end of December, although his five-year contract would expire in April. Njilo told Grocott's Mail that he had been offered a post in another local municipality in the Eastern Cape, but declined to elaborate.

Other contracts expiring next year are those of social services director, Mandisi Planga (July) and corporate services director, Thabiso Klaas (March). The contracts of Baart and director of local economic development, Riana Meiring would expire in August and September 2013 respectively.

Contracts for directors cannot be renewed, but the directors are free to reapply. This was revealed when, during a confidential meeting, a director asked that their contract be renewed and was told they should apply again for the post.
