A boxing tournament with the blood, sweat and tears of juniors, seniors, soldiers and women boxers took place at the Indoor Sports Centre in Joza recently. Boxers from clubs in Kirkwood, Addo, Port Alfred and Port Elizabeth joined in the fray, as well as local clubs like Mayfield and Masibambane. The event was hosted by the Mfuzo Boxing Camp on Saturday 19 November.

Given Faxi, a trainer at Mfuzo, said he was very happy with the turnout at the competition and thanked members of the Makana community who came show their to support.

In the junior matches, James Cacela of Masibambane lost to Luthando Ncula of Mayfield. Mlombi Likho, of the local host club, took on Andile Skade of the Mzamo Boxing Club in Kirkwood, with Likho being victorious.
The women's section of the tournament saw Busisiwe Apleni from Port Alfred take on Bongiwe Ncolani from Mzamo. Ncolani came out tops.

In the senior men's bouts, Lungelo Dube of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) took on Bongani Mbunge from Mzamo boxing club, with the soldier winning after he stopped Mbunge in the third and final round. Thandi Mayi of Mfuzo took on Zolo Ntlokwana from Addo's Fighting Stars club and Mayi won on points. Mvuyisi Springbok, also of Mfuzo, fought against Masibambane's Ayanda Booi, with Booi winning on points.

Olympic silver medalist from Mfuzo, Siphosethu Zingela fought Vuyani Swaartbooi of Masibambane in one of the toughest bouts of the day. The fight ended in a draw, although many supporters felt that Zingela deserved the win.
