The Diocesan School for Girls' rowing club made history recently when it was awarded the Victrix Ludorum at the annual Knysna Regatta where they came up against schools from the Western Cape.
The Diocesan School for Girls' rowing club made history recently when it was awarded the Victrix Ludorum at the annual Knysna Regatta where they came up against schools from the Western Cape.
Winning the Victrix Ludorum was a first for DSG at any regatta. The Victrix Ludorum goes to the club with the most points, and points are awarded for every first place.
A DSG pair that has recently gained much international recognition is Kayleigh Scheepers and Jenienne Curr, who raced in the boys 2nd Doubles Regatta and finished second, just one second behind the winners. The girls also rowed in the quad races, winning the Open, U16A and U15A.
The Victrix Ludorum is widely contested by larger schools who have more girls and more expertise. On average, other schools have 15 girls in each age group, whereas DSG has 15 girls in total, making competing for the Points Cup more difficult.
However, this year DSG won the cup with 120 points. Somerset College finished second with 106 points and Peninsula Girls Rowing Club took third with 36 points.
The DSG team was made up of Ashley Rosslee, Kayleigh Scheepers, Georgie Edwards, Jenienne Curr, Jen Cleary, Tyler-Jo Moodie, Jodie du Plooy, Erryn Green, Julia Brodie, Michelle Burnside, Michelle Bouwer and Christine du Plooy.
