Police finally closed in this week on a man who has been on the run since October, after he allegedly abducted his teenage daughter. The 43-year-old man had appeared in court on a charge of raping her in early September, but was released on R500 bail.

After the 16-year-old girl returned from a holiday he then abducted her to an unknown location. When the Grahamstown SAPS traced the girl to a farm outside of town a few days later, spokesperson Captain Mali Govender said they had found her "traumatised and severely beaten". Before the police arrived, however, the man fled the scene and had been on the run ever since.

Police said the man was found on Wednesday night in Extension 5. The man was also out on parole after serving jail time for murder, and now he faces several charges including counts of rape and abduction. He is due to appear in court on Monday, 14 November.
