A combined East Cape Shotokan-Ryu (ECSR) and Rhodes Shotokan team was awarded the prestigious Roger Adams Katana Floating Trophy. The team won the Rotational Team Kumite Event, convincingly beating Joza 6–0.

The team event was one of many which took place during the 2011 ECSR and Rhodes University Shotokan Karate Championships on Saturday.

The combined ECSR and Rhodes team was made up of Priya Pillay, Xolani Mahala and Devron Hoffman.
The championship took place at the Hangar, on the Rhodes campus, and was jointly organised by ECSR and the Rhodes University Shotokan Karate Club. About 100 karateka from clubs in Kenton-on-Sea, Port Alfred, Adelaide and Grahamstown participated, as well as pupils from Yellowwoods Preparatory School, midway between Fort Beaufort and Adelaide.

The men's brown and black belt kata (forms) and kumite (fighting) titles were won by Mzwandile Matebese (Joza) and Xolani Mahala (Albany) respectively, while Priya Pillay (Rhodes) claimed both the women's brown and black belt kata and kumite titles.
