St Andrew’s College faced Union High in various inter-schools cricket matches on Saturday.

The 1sts met on St Andrew's Lower Field, and the home side won the toss. Captain Michael Rushmere had no hesitation in electing to bat first. The St Andrew's batsmen patiently went about their business, looking to set up a strong finish in their last 10 overs.

The Union High spin bowlers found some useful turn in the Lower pitch. This, together with the St Andrew’s batsmen’s inability to put away the loose delivery, pegged the run rate in the middle of their innings.

Union High threatened to keep the St Andrew’s total under 200, but Mbulelo Mama (37 not out) and Charles Bowren (27 not out) took advantage of the decent platform, concluding the innings at 224/6.

The St Andrew’s opening bowlers, Chris Ford and Sintu Manjezi, restricted the Union High batsmen and at 80/1 after 30 overs Union High were on the back foot. Pressure mounted and wickets fell as the Union High batsman attempted to raise the run rate.

The St Andrew's bowlers did well to restrict Union High to 158/8. Andrew Rushmere, Murray Leith and Sintu Manjezi picked up two wickets each for St Andrew's.
