Rhodes Shotokan Karate won three gold championship medals at the 2011 South African Shotokan Karate Nationals. The annual style championship, hosted by the SA Shotokan Karate Academy, took place in Uitenhage on 7 and 8 October.

Rhodes Shotokan Karate won three gold championship medals at the 2011 South African Shotokan Karate Nationals. The annual style championship, hosted by the SA Shotokan Karate Academy, took place in Uitenhage on 7 and 8 October.

The Rhodes team members participated in kata (forms) and various kumite (fighting) divisions, including individual three-point or sanbon kumite, one-point or ippon kumite, and team kumite.
The Rhodes side, which included a team of eight competitors, returned with a total of 15 medals, including three golds, seven silvers and five bronze medals.

Winning gold championship medals were Travis Dell (ippon kumite), Simone Heymans (kata) and Leroy Maisiri (kata).

The national champs saw karateka from across the country taking part.
