    Two long-standing records fall

    For the first time in St Andrew's College history, interhouse sports day was held on a Sunday. This important day has always been noted for cold, wet and windy weather conditions but 2011 was exactly the opposite, taking place in sweltering heat. Despite this, there were some exciting and closely contested races, resulting in several highlights.

    For the first time in St Andrew's College history, interhouse sports day was held on a Sunday. This important day has always been noted for cold, wet and windy weather conditions but 2011 was exactly the opposite, taking place in sweltering heat. Despite this, there were some exciting and closely contested races, resulting in several highlights.

    New records set included:

    – Sebastian Williams Wynn broke GS Levey’s 41-year-old 3 000m record, his time being 8.46.49 seconds. He was pushed all the way by Duncan Ralston, with both pupils also qualifying for colours time.

    – Simphiwe Zondani set a new record in the 200m sprint race for under 15s, finishing in a time of 23.67. Simphiwe is a talented athlete and is known at St Andrew's as “little Bolt”.

    – Stephen Cragg set a new record in the U15 discus with a distance of 40.76 metres. He broke a record set in 1977.

    Also awarded colours were Christian Malila – U19 200m and Alan Gerber – U19 high jump
    Trophy winners were:

    – DSG cufflinks: (winner of U19 110m hurdles) – Michael Allsop
    – Esterhuysen Cup: (Best jump or hurdle performance) – Alan Gerber
    – Saner Floating Trophy: (winner of U19 400m) – William Cahill
    – Mickey Bryant Cup: (winner U19 800m) – William Cahill
    – Nicholson Cup: (for endeavour, senior) – Matthew Archer
    – Kruiskamp Cup: (for endeavour, junior) – Simphiwe Zondani
    – Brukman Cup: (most points U14 and U15) – Espin/Upper
    – Saner Cup: (interhouse cup for most points) – Espin
