Essie Pienaar recently represented Eastern Province at the South African Grand masters badminton championships held in Roberton.
The EP side came up against five other provinces in the A section, playing against Border, KwaZulu Natal, North West Province, Free State and Western Province A.
The EP side made history as they went on to win the event for a record number of years – since 1990.
Pienaar practices during the week with the Rhodes Badminton Club.
She is the only Grahamstown badminton player in the side, with the bulk of the team coming from Port Elizabeth. Pienaar thanked all local businesses who sponsored her for the SA Champs trip.
