Grahamstown boxer Mzoxolo Ndwayana will face Jongikhaya Leve, from Mdantsane, in a 10-round fight for the Eastern Cape welterweight title in Noluthando Hall next Saturday.

Grahamstown boxer Mzoxolo Ndwayana will face Jongikhaya Leve, from Mdantsane, in a 10-round fight for the Eastern Cape welterweight title in Noluthando Hall next Saturday.

Nyusa boxing promoters and Makana Municipality will co-host the tournament in which number of professional boxers will be taking part. This will be Ndwayana's first fight as a professional boxer and his first fight beyond six rounds.

Also from Makana is Masonwabe Mgcuwe, who will face Nkululeko Janjies in a six-round event. Mgcuwe and Ndwayana won their fights last month against opponents from Mthatha. "Both these boxers are ready to fight. We have been waiting for this for a long time," said Mgcuwe's trainer, Bulelani Ndwayana.

Sakhiwo Duruwe, PRO for boxing in Makana, said, "The day we have been waiting for is here. I call upon all people of Makana to come in numbers to support these boxers." Boxing promoter Mbulelo Mfama said it would be a top-rate show, with plenty of entertaining fights on the night.

These include: Asanda Jacobs, from Uitenhage, vs Anele Goci from Mdantsane (junior featherweight; Tapelo Potwana from Port Elizabeth vs Mzukisi Beni from Free State (lightweight); Siyabulela Kupiso from Uitenhage vs Sibusiso Twani from Cape Town (straw-weight); Madoda Qonono from Port Alfred vs Simo Mbande from Uitenhage (bantamweight); Thobile Gadu from Port Elizabeth vs Herbert Nkabiti from East London (junior welterweight); Unathi Nelani from Uitenhage vs Athenkosi Mazilane from Port Elizabeth (junior lightweight).

All bouts in the 22 October event will be under six rounds, except for the main event of the night. The first bout is scheduled to start at 3pm, with the last match around 10pm. Admission is R30 for adults and children get in for R15.
