Twenty-seven women attended a gathering of the Grahamstown/ Port Alfred Branch of the Business Women's Association at the Fynbos Hub Coffee Shop in the Monument, Grahamstown.

Following an information session by the Port Elizabeth branch at the end of August, the group was meeting for only the second time – this time to chart the way forward.

First was the establishment of a committee. Elected were Carol Johnson-Venter as chairperson, Daniella Djan as vice-chairperson, Nadine Bailie as media and public relations officer and Chane Grobler as treasurer. A secretary will be voted in at the next meeting, on 7 December.

The plan with the Grahamstown / Port Alfred branch is that they remain affiliated to the Port Elizabeth branch until they're in a position to become autonomous.

A business card hour will take place at the Fynbos Hub on Friday, 28 October from 1pm to 2pm and members of the Port Elizabeth Branch will come and demonstrate how the format works. This will be a good opportunity for members to network and tell other women of influence about their businesses.

The Grahamstown / Port Alfred branch has already decided to initiate a community project, which will involve members of the association distributing sanitary towels to schools attended by disadvantaged girls. This has been identified as an area where the association can make a difference and it's project that has been very successful in Port Elizabeth.

The next official meeting of the association will be held at the Fynbos Hub on Wednesday, 7 December 2011 from 1pm to 2pm. Any interested businesswomen are welcome to attend.

Anyone interested in joining the Business Women's Association can contact Carol Johnson-Venter, the Chairperson, at 046 636 1744 or director@gadra.co.za
