The Albany Museum's Nozipho Madinda will be accompanying four pupils to Robben Island Museum’s Isivivane Solwazi 2011 Spring School Nation-Building Camp.

Madinda, who is head of department of the Mobile Museum Services, will take Zintle Mali, from Masihlangane Secondary School in King William's Town, Nkosiyabo Magwadi, from Masakhane Combined Farm School in Seven Fountains, Nyumka Amanda, from Sakhingomso farm School at Hope Fountain and Lelethu Mto, from Khutliso Daniels Secondary School in Grahamstown.

Public Relations and Marketing Officer Zongezile Matshoba will also join the team. Ex-political prisoners will teach the learners more about Robben Island, discussing the theme, "What can you define as your heritage, and how are you safeguarding it?"

Before the trip, the pupils must research the topic. They will also be required to bring a set of traditional clothing. They must be able to explain when it is worn, by whom and why it is important to them or their community. It will be an opportunity for the pupils to celebrate their culture and introduce it to other pupils from South Africa and Namibia.

The Spring School begins today and ends next Sunday. "During their time on the Island, participants will take a journey to discover its history of banishment, hardship, isolation and imprisonment – but also learn about resistance and the triumph of human spirit," said Madinda.
