Our dams may be doing well now, but infrastructure in Grahamstown is still unable to deliver a constant water supply to the city.

The most recent instalment in Grahamstown’s ongoing water saga left parts of the town with empty taps on Friday. Some areas reported a drop in water pressure, but reportedly had enough for the basics.

On High Street, without any water for much of the day, locals complained that they couldn’t find any salons that were able to offer a haircut. One shopkeeper grumbled that the situation was “a real pain for many businesses.”

It seems a sizeable portion of the problem stems from a burst pipe on Fraser Street.

Municipal workers were toiling with spades and heavy machinery on Friday afternoon to stop the torrent that was flowing from underground and flooding a segment of African Street.

At the time they could offer no precise estimation of when the issue would be resolved.
