Grahamstown's Daphne Scheepers, along with the rest of the South African Women’s rugby team, returned home this week after achieving another breakthrough during the 2011 Nations Cup tournament in Ontario, Canada.

Mandisa Williams and her team were edged into fourth place by the US on points difference.

The team managed a first win at the competition after they came from behind to surprise the more experienced and higher-ranked US team 26-23, in a match where Scheepers scored one of SA's tries.

The US turned the tables 29-9 in their play-off match for third place.

The South Africans lost their two other pool matches against England and Canada, as well as the third-place playoff against the US.

Head coach Denver Wannies said he was satisfied with the much improved performances by his charges.

The SA Women won two series last year and also registered their first win at the Women’s Rugby World Cup in England last August. The Nations Cup was his team’s first competitive outing since then.

The players will now return to their respective provinces to compete in the domestic women’s interprovincial championship.
