Members of the South African Muncipal Workers Union (Samwu) began their campaign of littering and vandalism in Church Square yesterday morning. The union started a national strike following an impasse in salary negotiations with employer body South African Local Government Association (Salga). This type of behaviour is not an unfamiliar sight in Grahamstown, as Samwu members reacted similarly last year when their wage demands were not met.
