Ward 2 residents filled to capacity Noluthando Hall in Joza, on Wednesday, to elect their ward committee members.

After a long wait, the meeting continued without the municipal official who should have been present.

Ward 2 councillor Nomathamsanqa Meti, explained to residents that she had resigned from the Department of Health, where she had been working before being voted as a councillor.

"Wednesday the 17th of this month is my last day in the department, and my office will be open on the following day ( the 18th), at BAAB [the former Bantu Affairs Administration Board building, now the housing department]here in Joza," she said. "Today I want to assure you that we will be having ward meetings on a regular basis."

Meti explained that the ward was divided into 10 areas, each of which was expected to have a representative in the committee. The following people were elected as ward committee members:

  • Afika Adams for the Mrhwetyana area;
  • Bongani Hanise for Thatha;
  • Nontsomi Magobiyane for Ntlebi;
  • Vuyokazi Makinana for Dutch;
  • Gova September for Velllem;
  • Bulelwa Mgogoshe for Phumlani;
  • Nocebo Malgas for Makana;
  • Manise for Ncame;
  • Thembeka Ntlumbini for B and
  • Patric Mahlahla for C.

After the election results were announced, Nosigqibo Soxujwa briefed committee members on what was expected from them. "You can go to the taverns and have fun like other young people, but don't forget that you have a mandate to serve the people of this ward," Soxujwa said.
