James Price was one of the star cricket players in South Africa’s 4-2 win over the England U19’s in their one Day International Series. Price finished third on his team’s run-scoring list and is returning home to Grahamstown.
Price played a different role on his tour, and said, “I didn’t have a consistent batting position, I was more of a floater and was used to hitting spinners.”
This move paid off as he ended the tour with an average of 39.20 with a phenomenal strike rate of 107.69.
The promising young Price has his cricketing roots planted firmly in Grahamstown as it was at St Andrew’s Prep and St Andrew’s College that he first honed his skills. While at Prep he scored his first century in Grade 7 and represented the Eastern Province’s U13 team for two years.
Price then advanced to play for the EP U15 team and quickly progressed to the U18 side in his Grade 10 year till matric.
Carl Bradfield, his school coach, has impacted on both his game and his outlook on life. Price said “He helped me balance everything and focus on other aspects that better my cricket.”
Price has remains faithful to the Eastern Province Union that he has been a part of since his junior school days.
“I have lived in the Eastern Cape my whole life and I want to remain loyal to the Warriors, who have given me so many opportunities over the years,” Price said.
He is currently living in Port Elizabeth and has been playing for the NMMU 1st and 2nd XIs. Price has already been capped by the EP Amateur side and has long-term aspirations of joining fellow Grahamstonians Jon-Jon and Kelly Smuts (of Graeme College) in the Warriors team.
