Juan Munoz (violinist) and Mariel Ilusorio (pianist) will be joined by Erika Bothma (pianist) and Marian Lewin (cellist) in Arensky’s Trio in Db major, Schubert’s Trio in Bb major and Ravel’s La Valse for 4-hands.
Poet Harry Owen, who moved from England to the Eastern Cape in 2008, has written poems based on these works which will introduce each performance. Munoz and Illusorio are presenting their 5th annual Concert Series, sponsored by the Rupert Musiekstigting.
Since moving to Grahamstown in 2005, they have strived to uplift classical music in the Eastern Cape through their teaching, as well as various musical projects.
Bothma is a Senior Lecturer at NMMU. Lewin, from Cape Town, guests in their series for the third time. The cellist was honoured with the prestigious Parnassus Award in 2010 by the Music Department of Stellenbosch University for her extraordinary contribution in the South African classical music scene.
Harry Owen, the inaugural Poet Laureate for Cheshire (UK) in 2003, is the author of five poetry collections: Searching for Machynlleth (2000), The Music of Ourselves (2004), Five Books of Marriage (2008), Non-Dog (2010) and Worthy: poems for my father (2011). Tickets are available at the door: R60/30. Entry is free for children and scholars. This concert will be repeated at the NMMU Auditorium in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday, July 26.
