Corporal Zingisile Ephraim Nikelo, 41, was today sentenced to five years in jail for driving into and killing road runner Dave Hanton in March last year.
Nikelo was on 16 May found guilty of culpable homicide by Magistrate Louis Claassen of the Grahamstown Magistrate's Court.
In addition to the prison sentence, the Magistrate also revoked Nikelo's driver's license for five years, saying he was a danger to other road users.
Nikelo was taken into custody immediately after the sentencing. His wife and other family members were present, as were friends and family of the deceased. Grocott's Mail will publish a full report in the Friday 1 July edition.
