Two Kingswood College swimmers, Tamlyn Price (16) and Jasmin Chungu (14), have been chosen to represent their countries in upcoming events. Chungu has been selected to represent Zambia at this year's Common Wealth Games in September in the United Kingdom.

Price has been selected for the South African Junior National squad which will swim in the Africa Games and Zone 4 and 6 galas that take place throughout the upcoming season. Price is elated with the selection, as she now receives elite coaching from top coaches at various coaching clinics, as swimmers in the junior squad are prepared for future or possible Olympic representation.

Chungu is a level 1 top swimmer with 12 medals, including seven gold, four silver and one bronze. Price is a level 3 swimmer with two golds, two silvers and one bronze medal. Price holds the EP records for the girls U16 50 metre backstroke, U16 100 metre backstroke open and U16 50 metre butterfly open.

Chungu was selected for the Common Wealth Games according to the times set by Zambia, while Price's selection for the SA Junior National squad comes from points (according to time and medals) at one specific gala.

Price had to earn 850 points or more, which she did at the recent level 3 gala. Price is one of eight girls selected as part of the junior team. Chungu is scheduled to take part in an upcoming gala next month where she will be monitored.

Both these swimmers have been fortunate to have the support of local coaches Sheena Price and Tudor Lacey and have also trained at the DSG and Kingswood swimming pools, while swimming throughout the year without a break in their training routine.

Sheena Price has kept an eye on Chungu on behalf on Zambia, sending weekly reports on her galas and training. Price says this is the first step to what she has been working towards as a swimmer. Her plans for next year are to qualify for the Common Wealth Games and she also hopes to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games.

Chungu, who has been swimming for the past six years, has been at Kingswood for two years and says her swimming has improved “dramatically” since being under the watchful eye of Grahamstown's top two swimming coaches. Chungu now hopes to qualify for the 2016 Olympics.
